Description

This gorgeous Yenchen & Yawen vase is a functional objet d’art. The form is inspired by a philosophy of the Japanese art of pottery repairing – “Kintsugi”. Kintsugi treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. Yenchen & Yawen created a new casting method inspired by this ancient technique to repair cracked Jesmonite with bronze powder.

  • Handmade
  • Dimensions: H 110mm/ Ø 60mm
  • Weight: 260 g
  • Materials: Jesmonite/ Bronze Powder/ Glass/
  • The products were made of Jesmonite – a water-based acrylic resin that consists of gypsum and marble particles which give the material a satin, marble-like surface. The color of the product originates from different oxidized metal particles cast within the resin. Every item is carefully crafted and handmade in Yenchen & Yawen London studio.
  • It may not be the exact piece as the images, variation should be expected.

The studio designs and makes handcrafted objects in which unorthodox material combinations are manipulated by traditional and experimental techniques.

We experience the meaning of time that will change ourselves while changing the objects. Inspiration and concept comes from our insights and fascination of time defined processes. Together, we are able to merge concept from craft and technology, design and chemistry to create unique handmade pieces that reflect collective memory of objects
